IPad Case

Keep your tablet safe from scratches and looking stylish in this handy tablet case which also has a pocket to pop in your USB cable or any other small items you require.

What you will need:

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Needle and thread

  • Ruler

  • 1 button

  • Ribbon - 19 cm long

  • Heritage wadding

  • The Craft Cotton Company's Floral Sketches fat quarter set

First, cut out your fabrics:

Choose 2 fat quarters from the set. I picked the textured lime and the floral spray.

Place iPad or other tablet device on the green fabric and cut around the device leaving a 2 cm seam allowance all around. Cut another piece of this. This gives you your back and front pieces.

Cut out 2 pieces of wadding, and one piece of flowery fabric the same size as these front and back pieces. This will give you your padding wadding pieces and a pocket piece.

Cut out the lining: same as cutting out the front and back pieces, place the iPad or other tablet device on the flowery fabric and cut around, but this time leave only a 1.75cm seam allowance.

Now sew the pieces together:

Place a piece of wadding down first, then a piece of the green fabric right side facing up. Now fold the flowery pocket piece in half and place with its bottom raw edge in line with the back fabric piece. Put in a couple of pins to hold.

Now take the other green fabric piece and place right side facing down, followed by the other wadding piece. Pin to hold.

Now sew down the side, along the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top edge unsewn.

Cut a small triangle off each of the bottom corners to help when the case is turned later.

Sewing and adding the lining :

Place the two pieces of lining fabric right sides facing together and sew down the side, along the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top edge unsewn.

Take your ribbon and fold it in half. Place it's raw edges just slightly over the raw edges of the top edge of the case. Pin in place on the inside of the case at the middle of the back fabric piece.

Turn the lining so it’s right sides are facing out and place into the unturned case so that the right sides of the lining are facing the right sides of the case.

Line up and pin the top raw edges of the lining and case, now sew around the top edge leaving a 5 cm gap unsewn.

Finally, turn through and sew:

Turn the case out the right way through the unsewn gap on the top edge. When you turn it out, don't worry if the pocket ends up on the side of the ribbon loop, all you need to do is fold it back over to the other side

To finish the open edge, fold in the top unsewn edges and slip stitch to close the gap.

Sew on the button.
