- IPad Case
Keep your tablet safe from scratches and looking stylish in this handy tablet case which also has a pocket to pop in your USB cable or any other small items you require. What you will need: Pins Scissors Needle and thread Ruler 1 button Ribbon - 19 cm long Heritage wadding The Craft Cotton Company's Floral Sketches fat quarter set First, cut out your fabrics: Choose 2 fat quarters from the set. I picked the textured lime and the floral spray. Place iPad or other tablet device on the green fabric and cut around the device leaving a 2 cm seam allowance all around. Cut another piece of this. This gives you your back and front pieces. Cut out 2 pieces of wadding, and one piece of flowery fabric the same size as these front and back pieces. This will give you your padding wadding pieces and a pocket piece. Cut out the lining: same as cutting out the front and back pieces, place the iPad or other tablet device on the flowery fabric and cut around, but this time leave only a 1.75cm seam allowance. Now sew the pieces together: Place a piece of wadding down first, then a piece of the green fabric right side facing up. Now fold the flowery pocket piece in half and place with its bottom raw edge in line with the back fabric piece. Put in a couple of pins to hold. Now take the other green fabric piece and place right side facing down, followed by the other wadding piece. Pin to hold. Now sew down the side, along the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top edge unsewn. Cut a small triangle off each of the bottom corners to help when the case is turned later. Sewing and adding the lining : Place the two pieces of lining fabric right sides facing together and sew down the side, along the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top edge unsewn. Take your ribbon and fold it in half. Place it's raw edges just slightly over the raw edges of the top edge of the case. Pin in place on the inside of the case at the middle of the back fabric piece. Turn the lining so it’s right sides are facing out and place into the unturned case so that the right sides of the lining are facing the right sides of the case. Line up and pin the top raw edges of the lining and case, now sew around the top edge leaving a 5 cm gap unsewn. Finally, turn through and sew: Turn the case out the right way through the unsewn gap on the top edge. When you turn it out, don't worry if the pocket ends up on the side of the ribbon loop, all you need to do is fold it back over to the other side To finish the open edge, fold in the top unsewn edges and slip stitch to close the gap. Sew on the button. © by Lesley Foster at Hook, Stitch, Sew for The Craft Cotton Company 2016 #freesewingtutorials #craftcottonco #backtoschool

- Tassel Bookmark
Make your own bookmark and learn how to make a puffy tassel. If you are new to sewing, then this tutorial is perfect and straight forward to do. What you will need: Thread Scissors 5cm x 5cm piece of card 5cm x 20cm piece of card Sewing machine 6cm x 21cm The Craft Cotton Company’s’ Floral Sketches Large Rose cotton print First, make the tassel: Cut off 300cm (2 arm spans). Keep folding this length in half until it is approximately 20cm long. Repeat this step to get 2 20cm long pieces of folded thread. To make the tassels, take your reel of thread and wrap it around the cardboard. When it is thick enough, take one of the 20cm piece and loop it through the thread and tie a double knot. Take the tread off the cardboard. Take the second 20cm piece and tie it around the top part of the thread and tie a double knot. Wrap the ends of this thread around the thread a couple of times and the tie in a double knot and cut off the excess. Cut the thread along the centre of the loops. Now attach the tassel to the fabric: Fold the fabric in half length-ways with right-sides together and pin. Slot the tassel inside the folded fabric in one of the folded corners. Leave 3cm of the tassel’s end sticking out. Pin the tassel to secure. PICTURE 9 Sew around the fabric with a 0.5cm seam allowance. Leave the short end without the tassel unsewn. Tip: Cut the corners of the fabric (make sure not to cut too close to the seam) and cut the ends of the tassel sticking out. This makes the corners of the bookmark pointier. Finally, insert the card and edge stitch: Turn the fabric through. Slot in the 5cm x 20cm piece of card. PICTURE 11 Tuck the unsewn end of the fabric inside and pin. Edge stitch around the bookmark. © By Raeven and Vicky for The Craft Cotton Company 2016 #freesewingtutorials #craftcottonco #backtoschool

- Fabric Jars
If you want to get into DIY then this is a perfect tutorial. Vamp up your old jars and make them into useful stationary holders! You will need: Scissors Fabric glue or PVA Lollipop stick Tape measure Ribbon and buttons (optional) Jar The Craft Cotton Company's Floral Spray, Textured Turquoise and Leaf cotton prints Method 1 Measure the jar length ways, including the base. Add 1 inch onto this measurement. Cut strips of fabric 1.5cm wide with your measured length. Brush the fabric with glue and starting from the centre of the base, place the fabric on the inside of the jar. Do this with each strip, overlapping each strip slightly, until the whole jar is covered (don’t worry, once the fabric has dried it will go transparent). Tip: use a lollipop stick or pencil to push the fabric against the jar. Method 2 Measure the width and length of the centre piece of your jar. Add 1cm onto the width measurement. Taking these measurements, cut out a piece of fabric. Wrap the fabric around the jar using glue to secure it. Take a piece of ribbon and wrap it around the top and button seam of the fabric so that it hides the raw edges. Secure with glue. Leave your jars to dry and voila- you have up-cycled you’re old jar into something crafty! You can add buttons and ribbons to decorate! © by Amy Henson for The Craft Cotton Company 2016 #freesewingtutorials #craftcottonco #backtoschool #home
